Today, I won’t share with you a “Cuties in the air” card, but a bookmark. I drew this cutie for an open call for submission of my favorite magazine UPPERCASE. I received this amazing magazine today and I was so happy that I thought it would be nice to share it with you. It’s an independent magazine for the creative and curious and it’s published by Janine Vangool, a creative solo entrepreneur. And check out the bookmarks – maybe you find mine, too – let them invite you to read a book.
Today’s card #8 is: MELT AWAY! I am looking forward to diving into a “chocolate treat” this week. Enjoying some extra portion of delicious chocolate – egg shaped, bunny shaped, chick shaped….
Oh, and if you would like to enjoy your chocolate to the max what about using all your senses and doing a degustation with your friends or family?: First, what does the piece of chocolate look like? Now, close your eyes… How does this little piece of chocolate feel?, How does it smell?, Does it make sounds? (Maybe when you bite into it…), and finally… How does it taste?….. hmmm, and now melt away. Happy Easter!
Today’s card #7 is CLOSE YOUR EYES. Walking in the park. Closing my eyes. Still walking – a bit slower, a bit more carefully. I feel each stone poking my feet though I am wearing trekking shoes. Sun is shining in my face – interrupted by the shade of the trees. This makes me feel somehow more hesistant – it makes me walk more slowly as if there are real obstacles. But at the same time it feels so good – it makes walking with my eyes closed addictive – I want to continue. I try to pay attention to other things. I can hear the birds, some voices behind us – oh, and I smell some strong perfume. This is kind of disturbing. I am opening my eyes. A couple in front of us is promenading at the lake…
We are taking another route – more wild through the woods – more deserted. I need to close my eyes again. It is relaxing. It feels intense. It gives me new sensations of walking a path I have already taken several times. Eyes closed walking. Please give it a try sometime, too.
And yes, maybe someone can guide you – I was also walking supported by reliable arms. 🙂
Today’s card #6 is CATCH THE MOMENT. At the playground. I am sitting on some wooden blocks at a sandbox, watching my child playing in the sand, completely immersed in her own world. The early spring sun is shining into my face, flooding my body with its warmth. I dare to close my eyes for some few seconds. What a peaceful moment full of contentment. I am enjoying it. My thoughts are wandering and … this peaceful moment got interrupted by a “there must be something – it’s too perfect”-thought. I am opening my eyes – “Am I sitting on a sticky chewing gum?” – “Is my back leaning against some dirt?” – “No, everything is fine.” – I relax again.
Yes, five minutes later I was cleaning my daughter’s hands – a cat made its little business in the sand.
Moments, emotions, feelings – they change. Try to catch the moment without thinking too much – it is going to change in any case. Just enjoy and move forward to the next situation when the time comes. And yes, from good to bad, from bad to good – it’s a see-saw of moments.
Today’s card #5 is: JUST SAY IT! About two weeks ago I met an inspiring woman at a girl friend’s house. Her name is Jasmina. And I thought she was a wonderful person. I came home with the intention to drop her a quick email the next day – just to say that I really liked her company and enjoyed talking with her. Days passed by… and so far no email has been sent.
Somehow it seems to be kind of difficult to send some nice words to someone else that we hardly know. If we just overcame this little struggle inside, we could make “our” world a tiny bit lovelier. Wouldn’t we ourselves like to receive some friendly words, too? Wouldn’t we feel happier if we got more often some appreciation and warm words?
“I liked chatting with you”, “Your smile is contagious”, “I really appreciate your help”, “You are so motivating…” How does it feel? These little words could make your day – and the day of others, too.
So, just take these little 5 minutes and brighten up someone else’s day. And I am sure that you will feel much better, too. I’ll try it now.
Today’s card #4 is Dancing in the rain. “I’m singing in the rain. Just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling. I’m happy again. …” Who does not know the song by Kelly Gene? Yes, I am singing in the rain, I am dancing in the rain. The little cold raindrops are covering my hair, waking up my skin, wetting my lips, running down my jacket, splashing on my sneakers. And finally entering the soil… to continue their unknown journey. Who cares about the mascara running down my cheeks, my hair looking like spaghetti, and my feet getting wet? It feels so good to have these little wet cold raindrops touching my skin. They tickle, they massage, they refresh my skin in the most pleasant and natural way… Still singing and running home now, to get my hot shower. 😉
Today’s card #3 is I LOVE YOU. Oh what a phrase full of cliché. But meaningful. I love you. What a beautiful sentence. It feels deeply. Why don’t we use it more often – in a real meaningful way? Maybe because this loving feeling is so deep that we sometimes cannot find it anymore. It’s hidden in our daily life routine. No time, too deep, too WHAT? Just one minute – take a deep breath and by slowly breathing out think of all people – your family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances – you feel deeply for, you love, you appreciate…. Your face clears up, gets soft and happy. You are full of “I love you”s.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
It’s not going about carnival. It’s going about a kids’ project I would like to initiate. This project came to my mind several years ago, inspired by my sister Caroline (a big “thank you” :)). She was doing an internship in Ireland when she felt sick and had to go to the hospital. The results of the examination were inconclusive, and my sister remained in the hospital with her stomach ache…. and with her positive attitude: she put a green T-shirt on that stood in her eyes for hope. Eventually she got better and she got fine.
I don’t want to say that the green T-shirt healed her. But it helped her mentally to stay positive and believe that things would turn out in a good way.
This inspired me to create the “SUPERHEROES” T-shirt kids’ project. I thought it would be great if children – especially sick children, but any others, too – had a T-shirt that stood for HOPE, LOVE and POSITIVE ENERGY. A T-shirt they would love to wear and that would give them strength and a good feeling – even if it was for a short moment only. A T-shirt that could support the children in their healing process – a T-shirt that would make them feel like SUPERHEROES.
But it’s not just a plain T-shirt – no, this T-shirt will be printed with a motif jointly made by children. A “SUPERHEROES” T-shirt designed by children for children – full of hope, love and positive energy!
This project is about imagination – I believe in the power of imagination. It’s about giving – I believe in the power of giving. And it’s about children – yes, and I believe in the power of children!
My dream is to do this project all over the world. And I am just at the beginning…. I? No, it’s a “WE” project. A project for which many helping hands are needed – starting with the precious hands and intuitive creative minds of children. We also need a room to create art with the children, we need hospitals that are interested in this project… and we need you – people who believe in the power of imagination, giving and children.
Are you interested?
If you are interested in this project I would be happy to hear from you. If you are interested in having your 6-12 year old child participating in the SUPERHEROES contest please contact me. No special skills are necessary. Once location, date etc. are fixed you will be informed right away.
We will start to create the T-shirts in Brussels, donating them to hospitals in Belgium – and of course to others if there is demand, and we want to pre-sell them soon (“Get One, Give One”).
Thank you for your interest! And if you know somebody who might like this project please feel free to share this information. We will write about the progress of the SUPERHEROES project on this blog. Thank you for connecting by sending me a message on Facebook or via the LOD’WI blog newsletter or send me a mail.
Today’s card #2 is FEELING CLOSE TO NATURE. Some days ago I was walking in the woods. It was misty and drizzling. And somehow a tree got my attention and I just wanted to touch him. “May I touch you, wonderful tree?”… the bark was rough and full of structure. And at the same time soft, covered by green wet moss. I was wondering how many years the tree has been rooted there… standing there… in the rain, sun, wind, snow… Giving us oxygen, beautiful leaves, protection. Giving me that day strength and energy. “It was nice connecting with you.”
Tree hugging (or just touching) is not weird and not just for hippies. Re-connecting with nature is becoming more and more important again. Have a look at The School of Life: http://www.theschooloflife.com/london/shop/how-to-connect-with-nature/
Maybe you want to invite a friend for a tree hug walk?
